Boston Globe internship applications due Nov. 1

The Boston Globe summer intern program offers a variety of opportunities in the newsroom. Applications are due Nov. 1

The largest group of interns works in metro on general assignment. Other intern reporters are assigned to sports, living/arts, and business. They also have intern positions in the photography and graphics departments, and on the copy desk.

The copy editing position may be filled by a Newspaper Fund intern, and a health/science position is provided through the Kaiser Foundation.

All applicants must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate program or graduating in May or June. Journalism graduate students who do not have professional experience as a newspaper reporter may also apply. Undergraduates do not have to be journalism majors in order to apply.

An aptitude for newspaper work is the most important qualification for the internship, according to the Globe's website..  Applicants must have had at least one previous internship at a daily newspaper.  Applicants must have a driver’s license.

Summer interns work as full-time employees for twelve weeks, between Memorial Day and Labor Day.  Interns are paid a weekly wage -- the wage is not specified in materials sent to UM or the Globe's website. Intern work shifts vary.  An intern supervisor serves as a writing coach and there are weekly meetings with editors and staff members on a range of issues and topics pertaining to journalism.

Application forms can be obtained from Nadia White or or downloaded from the Globe's websiteClick here for 2012 Application. The Globe will not accept e-mail applications, so get them done on time.

APPLICATIONS FOR THE 2012 PROGRAM MUST BE POSTMARKED BY NOVEMBER 1, 2011.

Material will not be returned.  Finalists will be asked to go to the Globe for an interview.
